It is my "Best Professional Work"...
But I want to share with you something far more meaningful to me than a splashy online portfolio.
I created this page to encourage you to consider some things you might not have ever thought about before.
Finding and leveraging our individual gifts and talents (in their purest intended form) is a wonderful way to build a special life that will truly fulfill our heart, mind and soul.
I share many encouraging insights and plenty of special nuggets that I feel have directly contributed to my life as an Artist and Designer while carving out a creative life, here in beautiful Santa Barbara.
On the surface, many dream that if they can only change their physical circumstances- life would become "better". For most of my life that's what I believed, too.

My Personal Search for Fulfillment:
Living in one of the wealthiest beach towns in California does not guarantee "Contentment":
On certain days I could make the argument that our beautiful town can be a bit boring, that perfection can numb ones senses.
Like others focused on Excellence- I am hopeful and engaged in the process of creating new ART. There is an excitement that comes with seeing creative thoughts become reality.
It's natural to be drawn to the next big idea, project or endeavor- but they can also be distractions from obtaining the BEST life.
A few years ago, I started to realize I had been putting a whole lot of extra effort into trying to gain more happiness and contentment through "Things", accomplishments, Significance.
But as I reached certain goals and began to work with famous people, higher end projects, etc...
I began to realize that these external experiences were only providing temporal "hope"- with regard to the deeper inner satisfaction I was craving within my heart, mind and soul.
There is a dull emptiness in self-sufficiency, and no amount of striving or material success can ever fill that "Internal Void".

My lovely and beautiful wife personifies this favorite quote, above. Four or five years ago I started noticing a change in her that was really appealing. I couldn't place my finger on it at the time... but that special feeling I have for her is intoxicating. Please read on.
Having a real sense of purpose brings more meaning into our life. Just buying or accomplishing stuff often leaves me feeling dissatisfied because that busyness is just a distraction to dealing with the true emptiness in my heart. Each time I do it, I actually postpone the Life-Giving moments God has intended for me to enjoy that given day, or season.
What I am learning about "Wealth":
He is credited with writing much of Proverbs in the Bible, and the book of Ecclesiastes.
In Ecclesiastes chapter 2, he jots his memoirs, escapades, accomplishments.
King Solomon was also an architect and a botanist and with his impressive wealth, he undertook great projects and built magnificent homes, planted vineyards and made stunning gardens and parks.
Solomon admitted that everything he had invested in, and had physically and mentally toiled to achieve...
ended up "meaningless, and a chasing after the wind".
Solomon penned this verse to encourage us "Strivers" to not make the same mistake- Rather... to focus on what truly matters in creating a great life:
"My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight; they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck. Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble..."
King Solomon also wrote:
My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
Us "Strivers" often pursue great achievements because our sense of worth is tied up in what we do, what we have, or our social status.
But that's what I appreciated most when learning about Solomon's life conclusions... those paths lead to dead ends.
It was then that I realized I needed to get to know God personally, and one of the best ways I have found is to study the promises He has already prepared for me...
if only I would accept them.
Seeking fullfillment in a beautiful, affluent Seaside Hamlet such as Santa Barbara can be confusing- there are so many typical choices and distractions in beauty and wealth.
But I have experienced the same emptiness that Solomon wrote about, 3000 years ago.
At a certain point I started to see that no amount of perfection in my surroundings or outward activities could fill the void in my heart.
The great new project, another exciting trip overseas, attaining a difficult goal, or finally possessing a long awaited purchase- that initial excitement... always ends up falling flat.
This leads me back to wanting to nurture and develop something that IS Everlasting...
my relationship, and friendship with the great Designer- My Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Long term, it has proven to be the only sustainable and consistently satisfying aspect of my inner life.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him”. Psalm 62:5
I tend to have an “All or Nothing” streak within my tenacious and driven personality.
At first, when I began to grow in my Christian faith, I thought I had to give up my bent towards excellence-
trading in my love of design and creating beautiful things for something more modest.
But the more I delved into the scriptures, the more I realize that this is how God has created me.
Where I was messing up, was in my faulty thinking…
I was erroneously thinking that the material accomplishments would be the top “Prizes”.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do”. Ephesians 2:10
I smile every time I think about this. We are each created uniquely, and for His good pleasure.
By establishing an authentic perspective, we can enjoy our special gifts and talents… and we will achieve the greatest purposes for which we were created.
It was this “Aha moment” that I began to understand the real benefits of nurturing a friendship with my Creator- a deeper relationship with God, and an authentic path toward true contentment.
Like many... I continue to grapple with past hurts that still push me toward trying to find fulfillment in materialism, but seeking God’s original and innocent intent for my life’s purpose, is a nudge that I can’t deny.
“Who has ever given to God, that God should repay them? For from Him and through Him and for Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever!” Romans 11:35-36

Like some folks... the better part of my life I had thought the Bible as an old fashioned book, something that would bore me to tears if I ever opened and read it.
This web page was created to share just the opposite. I have found many an Encouraging Word, within it.

I am beginning to learn that if we make an effort to find God, we can expect to receive His favor:
"Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the Lord."
You Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
For I know the plans I have for you "declares the Lord," plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all of your heart.

In beautiful Santa Barbara, we often get distracted by "things" and new experiences as we try to buy the happiness we seek.
But when seeking authentic and lasting contentment within- those material things will eventually let us down.
God has a wonderful life designed for you and I- so much better than anything we can purchase, dream or attain on our own.
So what is it that my beautiful wife had tapped in to... that is so intoxicating?
She had begun to study the Bible in depth... finding authentic nuggets of real Truth. She quietly began to put into practice the promises she was finding hidden within it- things available for all of us to discover.
This has had a profound impact on my life- and her sweet disposition during difficult times got me very intrigued. I want to have a chance at that same genuine peace, joy and contentment.
Below, are just some of the beautiful scriptures I have now discovered for myself. They are changing how I see the world, and my overall outlook and attitude on how I want to invest time.
I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:11-13
Our Heavenly Father knows everything...He's our Creator, and surely He will smile on us when we want to spend some time, and ask Him for tips.
The majority of my life I have strived for material goals and ways to improve my outward appearance to the world.
To be honest, these efforts have provided a thrill to some extent- but eventually I start looking for my next “fix”.
The scripture verses I have collected on this page are a friendly reminder to focus on the things that will authentically satisfy my heart and mind for a lifetime…

The Real satisfaction we seek... comes from within a contented heart- no matter what our circumstances.
The Lord delights in those who reverence him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. Psalm 147:11

Finding positive messages like this (above), is always very encouraging to me. I have started to ask God for a more discerning mind. It is an intriguing thought: What inner treasures are awaiting us... if we only asked?
If any of you lacks wisdom (practical discernment), you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5
What will happen if we just let go, and begin to seek (and ask) for the full life that God has always intended for us?
Is that ache and emptiness we feel because we are still striving to do "life" our own way... not fully surrendering to our Maker?

This scripture points out that we do not always comprehend all that is "real" in our world, or how God is moving within our lives. It is important to ask Him to help us see what He wants us to see.

I am learning that the only way I will have the "Best" life is to take the difficult steps to surrender all my hopes and dreams to my Creator. As a selfish person, I generally think that I know what will make me the most contented and fulfilled.

I have learned the NIV Bible is the most popular Modern English Bible out there, so it's definitely worth finding a copy and checking out all of the promises, within it.
As seen in the screenshot above... my own NIV Bible has become a bit of a diary... I underline and write personal notes about things I have discovered in it, and how God is working in my life- In the wide range of life seasons (the ups and downs we each experience), I reflect back on how faithful God is to me and those I love.
My "Life Verse" is underlined (above): Proverbs 3: 5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, and lean not on your own understanding: in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight".

There will always be a dull emptiness in "Trying to be Good", or being "Religious"... grudgingly dragging ourselves to a church.
Also, in giving to charitable causes- just because it is the popular thing to do.
The real Joy we seek actually only comes from accepting God as our personal Savior, and developing a RELATIONSHIP with Him- (not by trying to be a "good person").

Several years ago I was struggling with negativity in a variety of areas of my life... and to a level where my general outlook on life was heading toward depressing.
Over a conversation at lunch one day... a good friend advised: "Don't rent space in your head, for that..."
He was right, I was wasting time on thoughts that were NOT going to lead to a better life.
I began to realize that our minds are a collection of everything we have pondered. From junk to gems.
Every single thought we spend time on, either contributes to Positivity... or steals from the real Joy, Peace and Contentment that God intends for each of us to have.

Sometimes we get in a rut... playing the same old thoughts in our head.
Consider treating yourself with something different-
perhaps something you have never been exposed to before.
Or maybe it's been a long time since you invested in your nourishing your heart, mind and soul.

Naturally, God has created each of us with a unique DNA that is not shared by anyone else on the planet.
Because of this... we perceive ideas, thoughts and the world around us differently from others.
Finding real and authentic Peace makes everyone blossom into the beautiful beings we each were originally conceived to be. Learning how we are individually made (and in the very special way that God sees us)... is really refreshing!
It is one of our greatest mistakes when we gauge our self-worth by some pre-conceived "world standard".
Regretfully, I have spent way too many years of my life worrying about what others think of me.
The funny thing is- only recently have I began to understand that everyone is in their own world, and they indeed are not even thinking about me.
This leads me right back to the authentic concept that my true self-worth can really only be found in developing my relationship with my Creator.
Seeking Him for guidance on what I should do next with my individual gifts, talents and interests is the solid path toward an interesting and rewarding life.
In one of his books, author C.S. Lewis describes a thoughtful analogy about a dusty mirror. He observes how sunlight cannot be reflected in a dusty mirror as clearly as a clean one.
I connect with that idea, because it helps me see that when I postpone asking God for help, I get bogged down with unnecessary issues (dust)… that keep me from seeing clearly the best life that God has envisioned for me.
Asking reconciliation (and receiving forgiveness) for regretful things I have done allows God to wipe away that dusty self-doubt, and the other things that fog up my mind.
I find it far more pleasant to drive a clean car, have clean clothes and a clean home… and that’s how I view the benefits in cleaning up my inner life.
Exercising and building up my inner spirit has nothing to do with trying to be a Goody Two Shoes.
The concept is purely about cleaning out the baggage in my head and heart… so that I can move on with the best chance at inner freedom and peace. Finding and reading God’s promises helps me do that.
If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31
Neither height nor depth, nor ANTHING ELSE in all creation, will be able to seperate us from the Love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I have discovered that finding meaningful insights that apply to my own life is easiest...
when reading a version of the Bible that is up to date with modern language, and is written in a way that I understand.
Honestly, I've opened older versions, and my eyes glaze over...
Most people are not intrigued if they have difficulty reading these older versions.
So I encourage you to seek a version that is easy to read.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

You don't have to join a church or do anything but pray a simple prayer: Something like this: "Lord, please reveal yourself to me. I would like to know you. That emptiness has become a motivator for me, as I seek to know God better.
A lot of folks think the Bible is an old fashioned bit of literature that doesn't have any relevance today. Once I started to open and read it for myself, I found it to be just the opposite.
As I have already shared (ABOVE)... There are countless, insightful truths that DO apply to our modern life. I am learning that true contentment comes from accepting how God made us... Uniquely Special.
